C.W. Ferguson Cabernet Malbec
Wine
Houghton C.W. Ferguson Cabernet Malbec honours the contribution of early Houghton winemaker Charles William Ferguson who established the reputation of Houghton wines.
The fruit is sourced from Frankland River, characterized by cool winters, warm summer days and cool summer nights. Its soils are some of the oldest degraded granitic gravels in the world.
The Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec grapes are handpicked and hand sorted. After crushing, they undergo wild yeast fermentation in a mix of small open and static fermenters.
The wine is pressed off skins to tank then transferred to one third new French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation. After 16 months in barrel, the individual parcels are blended and bottled.
Vibrant garnet red, Houghton C.W. Ferguson Cabernet Malbec is rich with complex layers of dark fruit flavours and firm, fine tannins. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
